Diverse communities
Hackney and City of London are dynamic and diverse boroughs with rich cultural and ethnic mix. It is estimated that 64% of Hackney and 62% of City of London residents come from a non-white British ethnic background.
While rich cultural mix brings a lot of positives to community life, poor integration can negatively affect community cohesion, perception of safety, utilisation of local services and, ultimately, physical and mental health outcomes. In addition, a lot of migrant communities are often overrepresented in deprived areas which puts them at an increased risk of poor health and wellbeing.
The reports in this section look at some of the persistent issues affecting local communities, showcase the previous and existing engagement and offer actionable recommendations to improve the outcomes for residents from our diverse communities.
